This is a very shocking news & we never expected something like this will ever happen. Thousands of Nokia employees are being forced to resign in India & after that they will be jobless. As per some tweets posted by employees of Nokia Mobile India (HMD Global India) until now they were working as Promoter/Sales Executive for the company but now they have been told by management that company has decided to wind up their Promoter & FFASM program. As a result employees can only work for the company until 19th May 2020. Check out the tweets below for more details :

As per employees they have received below mentioned details in the “Exit Initiation Letter” dated 5th May 2020 :

Dear Employee

A request to complete your relieving formalities has been received from your principal employer – HMD Field Force due to termination of contract.

We are initiating your exit with 15 days of notice period as per below details:

Exit Initiated On: 05/May/20

Reason for Exit: Termination of contract

Last Working Date: 19/May/20

Please note that a satisfactory exit is dependent on your serving the applicable notice period, completing a responsible handover of your responsibilities, returning all company assets and intellectual property, and clearing an pending dues. A relieving letter will appropriately be issue to you upon your request.

After talking with few employees over the chat on Twitter & Instagram they told us that total 5000 employees (we didn’t have officially confirmed it) are affected by this decision and their salary is also on hold. So, why Nokia employees are being forced to resign in India ? Currently as per employees point of view this decision has been taken as an effect of lockdown due to Coronavirus outbreak. But Government of India has already announced that companies can’t fire their employees in this hard time & also they can’t hold their salaries. HMD Global has only mentioned “Termination of contract” reason in the “Exit Initiation Letter”.

We’ll continue to give you a news update once we get any official details on this issue from HMD Global.

Update (May 14th) :

Just after publishing this story we reached to Nokia Mobile India (HMD Global India) to comment on this issue. But unfortunately we received an email where HMD’s team refused to comment on this story saying, “..we are really sorry to say that we are unable to commit about any of third party website written article. Further, we would like to inform you that it is not our official website.”

But luckily Nokiamob’s team has received response from the company on the same issue. HMD has confirmed that sales promoters have losen their jobs in India. The headcount numbers aren’t exactly 5000 (they could be more or less) & HMD isn’t ready to share any official information about that. Here’s what company has to say :

HMD Global is committed to serving the interests of our consumers, our partners and the communities involved in the selling and servicing of our products. The company has, since inception in India, placed importance on the retail strategy and continues to do so. Our vision for and commitment to India remains unwavering. We are consolidating our field force agencies across the country into a singular agency to ensure better national alignment with market requirements.

While we do not share headcount numbers, we can confirm that the quoted headcount referenced by you is inaccurate.”

Thanks to employees like Shanu, Junaid & Mohammad for having conversation with us. We hope all of you will get out of this critical situation soon.

Stay safe & stay tuned for more exact details !
