Nokia 8, 5, and 5.1 Plus users are now getting Ambient Mode for Google Assistant. This feature was recently became available for Nokia 9 PureView, 8.1, 7.1, 7 Plus, 6.1 Plus, 6.1, 3.2 and Nokia 3. It was first announced for Nokia 6.2 & 7.2 by Google. But now it looks like Google is making it available for many Android smartphones.
What’s this feature actually ?
This feature is useful when your phone is on charging. Let’s see what Google itself has to say about it on their blog :
While your mobile device is charging on a nightstand, living room table, or kitchen counter, it can still help you stay on top of your day. Google Assistant’s Ambient Mode is a new visual overview that makes it easier to see notifications and reminders, start a playlist and control smart home devices on the lockscreen of your device. When you’re done, your screen will turn into a personal digital photo frame linked to your Google Photos account to add another personal touch. Ambient Mode will be available on the upcoming Lenovo™ Smart Tab M8 HD (when placed in its smart charging station) and Lenovo Yoga™ Smart Tab (when you pop out its handy kickstand), as well as when you start charging your new Nokia 7.2 and 6.2.
For an example let’s take a look at the below image in the form of GIF animation :
Some users are also reporting that they aren’t getting this Ambient Mode for Google Assistant on their Nokia 5.1 Plus (and some others).
To see if this feature is available for your Nokia Smartphone or not just go to : Settings > Google > Account Services > Search Assistant and Voice > Google Assistant > Assistant > Phone.
