HMD wants to Export ‘Made in India’ Nokia Phones to other markets

As per the latest report published by Economic Times, HMD Global wants to export ‘Made in India’ Nokia Phones to other markets. Ajey Mehta (VP & country head of HMD Global) in a discussion with Economic times said, “Nokia in the past used to be a major exporter of mobile phones from India. Now that we are once again manufacturing almost all handset models in the country, there is scope once again to export handsets. Exports will drive scale of local production, reduce overhead and costs”

Further he also says that HMD is in talks with Foxconn (company which manufactures the Nokia Phones in India) to get component suppliers to India. The report also claims, Nokia is already among the top 3 feature phone makers in India with around 8.5-9% market share. While Nokia smartphones have captured around 3-3.5% market share.

HMD Global aims to become one of the top three smartphone brands in India in their first 2-4 years. As far now they have almost completed their first 2 years and a lot of milestones are yet to crack. HMD is doing well in India but we expect Nokia smartphones in the top 5 smartphone brands of the country in the next few quarters & further in the top 3 🙂
