Here’s why Nokia 6.1 Plus & select devices will not be getting Android 11

Yesterday (Oct 8th) Nokia Mobile officially shared their roadmap of Android 11 update for eligible Nokia smartphones but there are number of users who don’t know the exact reason behind ineligibility of their phone. In this article, we’ll find out why your Nokia 6.1 Plus & other popular Nokia smartphones will not be getting the upcoming Android 11 update.

Reason for ineligibility

With each new Nokia smartphone, HMD Global promises 2 major OS upgrades & 3 years of monthly security patch support. All devices which are excluded from the official Android 11 roadmap have already received 2 major OS upgrades but some of them are still eligible to get monthly security patch support (from now HMD may release these updates on quarterly basic for select devices).

How it works?

Let’s see an example of Nokia 6.1 Plus & Nokia 5.1 Plus. Both devices we launched in 2018 & at that time they used to come with Android 8/8.1 Oreo out of the box. After few months they received Android 9.0 Pie which was the first major OS upgrade for them. Now, they both are running on Android 10 which proves that HMD Global did a great job in completing their promise.

That’s why if you’re using Nokia 6.1 Plus or Nokia 5.1 Plus then you’ll not be getting the upcoming Android 11 update but monthly/quarterly security patches will be available for around one more year. Same strategy applies to the other ineligible Nokia smartphones.

We hope you got the exact reason for your query, Stay tuned for more 🙂
